This place had a nice write up about it in the Ellwood City Ledger on January 11th, 2013. The write up noted the following: "Happy hour is 4 to 6 p.m. Monday through Thursday with reduced prices in the bar and munchies, such as meatball sandwiches and pizza." With that in mind, I stopped here on a Tuesday afternoon at five. I ordered a meatball sandwich, and a breadstick. When I got my check, none of the munchies were discounted during the so called happy hour. I paid full price 6.75 for the sandwich and 3.75 for the breadsticks. The sandwich featured three meatballs cut in half and they tasted like they were from Loccisanos. Don't get me wrong...I love Loccissanos meatballs but for 6.75 I could buy a weeks worth from the grocery store instead of three from a self proclaimed Grille. The breadsticks were just a pizza shell with cheese and garlic on it. "Steelgate Pub & Grille is a non-smoking bar, but has a comfortable, heated room outside for smokers." There are about ten bars in Ellwood and I was excited to hear that this joint was non smoking. To bad the outside room, which more less resembles a bus stop, is where you have to walk to get into the bar. Yes there are two entrances, but you think they would put the smoke depot off to the side not by an entrance door. It also was not heated as we walked by. Instead the smokers were huddled together for heat as the heater was turned off for the night. "Morgan has transformed the space on First Street into a chic hangout with 12 beers on tap and more than 100 different varieties of brew available." Too bad there were only about six beers available when we went there. I am not big on craft beer, but on tap there was not much to pick from. I am still a little bitter also that I was there during their happy hour, and drinks were still full price. I don't know whether I should blame the Ellwood City Ledger for a botched write up of this place or if I should be upset at the business itself. It does seem promising in some ways but with hard competition from other establishments in town that offer a larger menu, pool tables, dart boards and happy hour, it's hard to imagine the Steel Pub being open two years from now.

Love to come here for the beer selection to mix and match. Not sure if you're gonna like that beer? Come here and buy one to give it a try! Owner is super friendly and always willing to strike up a conversation. Smaller draft selection but they have good beers on tap.

tiny menu....pizza and a couple of subs...but that said, the owner said he plans on expanding both the menu and the amount of taps in the near future! Ellwood city is (was) what i like to refer to as a "beer desert" every bar has the same dreck on tap and in the cooler. bud, miller, coors, busch.....gag! seriously... i went into one of the other bars and asked for micro brew....and was given a Guiness! (lets not be silly....of course i drank the Guiness..im irish) which bar you go to here depends on which particular breed of slimeball you want to be around....bikers?....druggies?....white trash?....douchebags? so i almost wept when i found out that the steel gate carries micro brew...and not just 1 or 2 but a good size walk-in full. (and yes they also carry dreck and dreck light). the bar is clean...lots of woodwork and doesnt stink like a grease trap and i didnt notice many foul elements at the bar either. i think we have a winner!

Great clean, place to grab a bite and try a different beer, malt, micro brew, glass of wine or even a wine cooler! I love coming here to try something different and head back home not smelling like i bathed in grease and smoke! A+

I'm happy that Ellwood finally have a place you can get craft beer. The place is pretty small, and the owner seemed very nice. They only had two craft beers on tap, so I would hope to see a better selection in the future. We asked the bartender what kind of Fat Heads beer they had on tap and she had no idea. This was pretty annoying. I understand if she didn't know how each tasted, but she should at least have known the names. Overall, it was a good experience, and I'm positive we'll be back to pick up a few six packs in the future. I hope this place does well and is able to stick around!
